"YEAR OF THE PIG" ZINE (2019)
at BABYCASTLES
" YEAR OF THE PIG showcases a number of games made by indie developers and studios based in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan that have played an influential role in contextualizing contemporary events through games. "
(taken from Babycastles' website) I had the pleasure of being in the exhibition's zine team as its primary illustrator! I got to design the zine's cover, which features a hand-drawn view as seen from Shanghai's Oriental Pearl TV Tower being overrun by pixel pigs. I also provided illustrations to accompany the written pieces inside the zine as well. The zine is also designed so that it can be read in English in one way, and Chinese when flipped upside down to the back cover. I decided early on that pink, pigs, and pixels was going to be the main visual design theme. One of my very first pixel pigs (the one at the top of this page) was used as the exhibition's mascot. 🐷 |
Above are the illustrations/pixels I did for the zine. The second image's background is a photo of the view from the Oriental Pearl TV Tower taken by Kyung Cho (Google Street View), and the third image's background is nebularswamp's art.
